Scales

Not true chainmaille, but as you can see from the second picture, it is very closely related.  I ordered a few hundred of The Ring Lord's small brass scales and a thousand of the accompanying split rings, just to fool around with.  I think every mailler should try scales at some point.  It is so satisfying to make a patch of them, though admittedly it is considerably harder than plain European 4:1!
