Finished Gauntlets

Well, as you can see, I have finished my gauntlets.

In the first picture you can see the back of the hand.

The second shows the palm and lacing.  I opted for extending the lacing all the way across the palm, allowing for better flexibility and an easier time of getting them on and off.  Oh and it took less work too.

The third shows the flexibility of the finished gauntlet; I can almost form a completely closed fist, which is not bad at all for a load of uncooperative steel.

The fourth picture shows the webbing on the fork of the thumb, one of the trickier parts on any chainmail gauntlet.

Gauntlets (incomplete as of 9/26/05):

This is the left hand on my first pair of gauntlets.  They are done in two ring sizes.  Originally they were going to be completely done in 16 ga 1/4" ID, which on the one hand would have taken less time but on the other hand would not have given me much flexibility.  So, I decided to take up the gauntlet and devote the time it took to do the fingers in a much smaller size.  I am hoping to have these battle- worthy for hand-to-hand combat, with little thought to appearance, but I think they will turn out quite handsomely anyway.

Rings:

16 ga 1/4" ID
20 ga 5/32" ID
Galvanized Steel
In the European 4:1 weave, with circular expansions.
